CAMPBELL RIVER GYMNASTS EXCEL IN FIRST COMPETITION OF THE YEAR
The Campbell River Gymnastics Association sent 6 athletes to their first
competition of the season. 5 girls attended the ORCA competition
held in Duncan January 21st and 22nd. This competition was a warm
up meet and a chance for some of the girls to try some new elements in
their routines. The girls competed with enthusiasm and stood out
as they came home with a combined 20 medals. Results include Katie
Lund, 1st on bars, 7th on floor and vault, 8th on beam and finishing 6th
all around in the Novice Level 2 division. Marika Sarton finished
1st on bars, 3rd on floor and vault and 8th on beam with a 5th overall
placement in the Level 2 Open category. MacKenzie Henderson was
1st on vault, 3rd on beam and bars, 6th on the floor and finished 3rd
all around. Tiffany Sharkie came home with a 1st place finish on
bars, and 2nd place on beam, floor and vault to finish second all around
in the Open Level 3 division and Melissa MacAdam finished 1st on Floor
and Vault, 2nd on bar and 3rd on beam to come home with the all-around
title. Tiffany Sharkie also won the Chorography award on the beam.
Aimee Clark also went to her first competition of the year and first
international competition. She went to Hawaii and competed in a
field of 100 competitors. She came home winning 1st place on bars
and beam, 2nd on floor, 3rd on vault and won the all-around title.
